Herbal Medicine for Beginners: An Introduction

Motherwort Leonarus cardiaca herbal medicine

Since I've started my practice as a herbalist, it has completely opened my eyes to the vast variety of healthcare practices that are out there. There are so many alternative modalities for people to try when it comes to their health concerns, and herbal medicine is definitely on the list of collaborative medicine to try. What I've come to learn in more recent times is so many people are genuinely interested in plant medicine - but they don't quite know what it is, how it works and what it may be able to do for them.

Holistic Medicine is making a huge resurgence. Many people are looking for collaborative ways to feel better, whether seeking a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, a Naturopathic Doctor, RMT or of course their GP. In my opinion, there is no wrong way to heal the body - whatever works for you is good enough to me! What a privilege it is to be at the time of being able to try different modalities and different practitioners within those modalities! Why not explore it for yourself?

Often people ask me about my practice, how a consultation is structured and what herbalism can treat. I've been out and about in the community the last few months and my most frequently asked question by far is "What is a tincture anyways?". This. This is the ground level information that I thought the general public knows, so what else could I be assuming people know about herbal medicine, and my practice specifically!?

What I've learned more than anything is that many people are so curious, but they haven't received the general information on a herbalist's practice. So here is my attempt to give some basic information on the who, what, where, why and how's of herbal medicine.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting a variety of topics and information on Herbal Medicine for Beginners.
